When You Build Something and No One Buys It

You did the right thing.

You listened.
You saw the pattern.
You built something to help.

And then… almost no one bought it.

In this episode of After the Book, I respond to a question from Maria—who built a course based on what her readers were asking for, only to see very little response.

This is where a lot of people get stuck.

They assume:

  • they built the wrong thing

  • the price is off

  • the marketing isn’t good enough

But often, the issue is something simpler.

Not the content.
The container.

There’s a gap between someone saying, “I want help”
and someone committing to how that help is delivered.

A self-directed course asks for time, discipline, and consistency.

But many people—especially the ones asking for help—are actually looking for something else:

  • guidance

  • presence

  • accountability

So the question isn’t just what people want.

It’s how they’re ready to receive it.

This episode is about recognizing that difference, and adjusting without throwing away the work.
